Al Lewis
Al Lewis STATEMENT My work as a multidisciplinary collage artist focuses on creating works that reflect the abnormal properties of the human condition. I place an emphasis on the relationship that we have with animals and anthropomorphized objects. I then add other visual motifs which tickle my curiosity. The following list illustrates some examples in descending order of significance. Cats, multicolored buttons, adjacent galaxies, shadowy corners, windows (with or without breeze), protons, industrially modified food, aluminum space vessels, stockings, poorly kept secrets, bones, organs, other innards and toast Collage is my medium of choice because it allows me to draw with material that has already been filtered by our visual culture. Pieces from magazines and books are part of a cyclical communication system. By drawing from this pool of information I can assemble examples of our behavior in order to remind myself and others that we are very strange animals. BIO I was born on the East Coast and currently reside slightly more easterly from my place of birth. I have not fallen into the ocean yet but I consider this to be inevitable. I studied under large wide eyed organisms with dirty fingers. I like taking things and putting them under an inflated eyebrow. ARTIST CONTACT [click to email] IMAGES
