STATEMENT

I see images as objects.

Images are fascinating and the idea of creating a story with them is exciting. I try to create strange pictures by finding the best combinations of images from books and magazines. To me, less is more. Simple and powerful collages are the ones I prefer. Surrealist art is a huge inspiration for my work. All my collages are handmade so I’m in constant fear of putting too much glue or regretting a cut. Dangerous life.

BIO

Amélie Jodoin completed a Bachelor in Fine Arts from UQAM in Montreal in 2016. She also owns a BA in Scenography from the same university. After working as a costume designer for a few local theatre productions, she decided to put all her time and effort in her own art. Painting is her expertise and she discovered the world of collage at school after a teacher brought the book The Age of Collage to class. Jodoin has a practice in collage as well as in painting, both mediums serving as inspirations to one another. In general, her work finds sources in popular culture and the Art world itself with a preference for sarcasm and dark humour.

She lives and works in Montreal.
