STATEMENT

I create analogue collages, using bits and pieces from vintage magazines, newspapers, ads, and various found items. I don’t use any digital tools for my work; every cut is done by hand, and every layer is glued down physically. I love the little imperfections that come with this method, like the torn edges, the visible seams, and the slight misalignments that you wouldn’t see with digital art. To me, these imperfections add depth; once you make a cut, it’s permanent. I also enjoy creating juxtapositions, combining elements like luxury with violence, protest with consumerism, or riot gear with something whimsical, like a marble poodle. I pull from diverse sources such as war photography, political slogans, and everyday advertisements, blending them together without trying to smooth over the differences. To me, the tensions between these contrasting elements are important. We experience conflict, consumer culture, and spectacle simultaneously in our lives, and I want my work to reflect that discomfort rather than neatly resolve it. In the end, collage is a fantastic way for me to create images that don’t quite fit together anywhere else. It allows me to bring together contradictions and disparate histories on the same page, and I find that process really rewarding.

BIO

Ayoub Behi is a Tunisian based in Greece artist whose practice centers on analog collage and mixed media. Working with hand-cut paper, found imagery, archival material, textiles, and paint, he builds layered compositions that move between surrealism and social commentary, often touching on identity, consumer culture, and politics. His work is shaped by a distinct visual style that pulls fragments from different contexts and reassembles them into images that feel both playful and confrontational. With a background in fine arts, he has shown work at Marika Art Space in Athens and participated in FFF Festival, Techno Yoga Festival, Sunset Tunis, and Omana Festival in Greece, where he also facilitated a workshop. Across these projects, his practice continues to explore collage as a space for disruption, recontextualization, and visual experimentation.
