STATEMENT

My art series is based upon fallen pop cultural icons. Pop cultural icons are glamorous, flawless, and even considered perfect. But what happens when perfect suddenly becomes imperfect? What happens when you strip away materialistic items, and peer into the soul of who a person truly is? Curiosity of the unknown is a natural human tendency. My art explores the exaggerated narration of pop cultural icons’ lives leading to their demise through the imagination of the fan. Beauty and fame come with a price when you live in the public eye. Each piece of the canvas exhibits a clue to the viewer to help them interpret the individual each piece is based upon. The style of my compositions derives from vintage film noir movies. By using a storyboard approach with essential images that pertain to each subject, I tell their story as if it were a memory. When people dream or reflect upon a memory, it is rare when we see the entire scene progress. Most people remember essential key details that are fragmented when we reflect upon the past. By using fragmented distorted images, I create the speculated imagery of the outsider looking in. Everyone wants to be remembered, but how we’re remembered depends upon the audiences interpretation of your conviction.
