STATEMENT

My figurative collages are studies of space, scale and emotional meaning, often presented in fractured and reconfigured architectural space. Creating them through a collage process allows both predictable and unexpected groupings. Using mannequins, rather than images of real people, helps traditional human editorial content slip away and be replaced by a provocative strangeness with its own meaning.

BIO

Jim lives and works in Sonoma, California, with his wife, the sculptor Karen Shay. His daughter, Genevieve, attends the University of California in Davis. He was born and raised in South Dakota, the child of albino prairie wolves who nurtured his instinct to make fine art and taught him how to differentiate between the banal and evil, and the beautiful and righteous.
