STATEMENT

Arranging disparate images to create a visual goof is what I am all about! I’ve spent my entire life around analog processes and let my materials come to me. I source mostly from a collection of found books, magazines, and any free print materials I find while traveling this beautiful country doing stand-up comedy. A classic scissor cut is my preferred method of extraction for a majority of the people, animals, food items, and objects I use in my creations but will employ a surgical blade for precision cuts when necessary. Currently, I adhere my work to mixed media paper or complementary patterns and/or environments with AdTech crafting tape but am beginning to explore working with different pastes on canvas, wood, and found objects. Laying out a collage is very similar to how I write my jokes–I look at what stands out to me, precisely cut out the elements I have to work with and make a kind of visual wordplay that (hopefully) communicates something thought provoking on the goofy end of the spectrum. It’s the best feeling to watch someone look at my work and see them chuckle. Never surprised and always humbled when some folks don’t “get it.”
