STATEMENT

I find my material everywhere, because, by working in this medium, I believe you learn to “see” the beauty of the discarded and turn it into “art”.

I present my reality in two different manifestations. They are either internal, elusive, suggestive or external, dynamic and engaging. They reflect my duality, which encompasses both.

“How I use the material at hand is often more important than the material itself.” – Kurt Schwitters

BIO

I consider my art, in the medium of collage, a re-composition. The forgotten and unwanted are orchestrated into a familiar but newborn synthesis that, I hope, will evoke in others a desire to connect to it. It is interesting to me that people look into my work, not directly at it, just as I do when I create it. I find my materials everywhere, which I combine by instinct onto the canvas. The result is at once personal and familiar because the materials used are common and easy to recognize. This allows the viewer to identify more easily with the composition.

Collage is, for me, an almost spiritual experience. It gives me a sense of peace and centredness. As I fill the blank canvas, I dedicate a part of my soul to my audience. The number of awards I have pinned on my wall are a reminder of the gift I have found and the gift I give. My success stems not from the many pieces I have sold in my short career, but from the fact that the people who have seen my work have wanted to have it for their own.

In seeking out and incorporating into my pieces that which is thrown away, I believe I have learned to see the beauty of the discarded and turn it into art.
