Richard Leach
Richard Leach STATEMENT My approach to collage is based on using found materials and working by eye, by hand, by intuition, toward a piece that looks and feels right to me. I take traditional compositional values of balance and rhythm and scale into account, but I do not try to make a piece “mean something.” Sometimes meaning emerges in the making of the piece; sometimes viewers read meaning out of a piece when they see it; sometimes a piece seems to almost make sense, but doesn’t quite do so. I am happy with all of these outcomes. BIO Richard Leach is a poet and self-taught collage artist from northeastern Pennsylvania. After making art for himself for many years, he began in 2009 to share his work online, and received great inspiration and encouragement from an online arts community that he joined. Since then he has had pieces in group shows in Stockholm; Tehran; Cannon Beach and Portland, Oregon, USA; and Hanö, Sweden. He was born in Bangor, Maine in 1953, has degrees from Bowdoin College and Princeton Theological Seminary, and was a pastor in Connecticut from 1978 to 1999. ARTIST CONTACT [click to email] IMAGES
