Rita Norton
Rita Norton STATEMENT Photomontage is my primary medium. I am influenced by early 20th-century political art and design containing messages, both subtle and direct. I am a collector of images including the many photos taken by my father who was creative in visual arts, and scraps of paper I have collected for color, content, and design. I enjoy the materiality of working with scissors, paper, and glue as well as the freedom of expression with Photoshop to lighten and enhance. As an advanced student of these techniques, editing and refining to engage the eye and mind are important stages in developing a collage. I am constantly learning and enjoy the quieting of my head as I work and play with a piece. I have served on museum boards and committees and pay close attention to the craft of art in current and past eras. BIO Rita Norton’s work in art began as a serious endeavor after she retired from a career for local government in urban planning and environmental advocacy. Norton has cultivated skills using collage with paper, collage with Photoshop, watercolor, oil paint, assemblage, sculpture, photography, drawing, and art bookmaking. She has exhibited at the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment, WORKS San Jose, NUMU Los Gatos, and Palo Alto Art Center. ARTIST CONTACT IMAGES |
