STATEMENT

I create small, intimate collages populated by solitary figures immersed in layers of discarded time-worn ephemera. The juxtaposition of realistic images of mankind and wildlife amidst the clutter of fragmented paper debris evokes a sense of isolation. Despite the turmoil surrounding them, the inhabitants of my compositions seem calm, peaceful and untroubled. My work explores the spirit of the individual, whether it be man or beast, in an unending struggle to survive in a chaotic world.

BIO

Born in New York City, Roy Patrick Comiskey is a multi-disciplined artist living and working in Takoma Park, Maryland. He had a lengthy career as a graphic designer, illustrator and art director. He studied at The Art Students League of New York.

During his many years as an editorial art director he was fascinated by the delicate interplay of imagery, typography and colour. That sensibility drew him to the art of collage.

Comiskey’s minimalistic compositions are often populated by solitary figures immersed in layers of discarded, time-worn ephemera. Explaining his work, the artist states, “I take refuge from a world that is increasingly technology driven and impersonal by using traditional methods to restore a sense of balance to the chaos of daily life.”
