STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our lives are on display, but we hide what we don\u2019t want to show. My work is about things not said; hidden things that belong to us and that are scary, embarrassing to tell. In my work, I bring these out, giving them a space. I come from a culture where what others think is a big deal. Living outside for 16 years has impacted my thinking, and now I process this through my work. I use symbolic elements and words to bring my message and work with materials that I can repurpose or use in a completely different way than intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dunia Barrera (born Madrid, 1979) is a collage artist currently living and working in Munich, Germany. Barrera comes from an analog photography background, with her work having been exhibited in a solo exhibition at Photo Espa\u00f1a in 2002. Now focused on the medium of collage, her work has been exhibited at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, Connecticut in the United States and at Gallery Anspach in Brussels, among others. She has been featured by Contemporary Collage Magazine<\/em> and in the publications of Fragmented Collective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her work is in the collections of the Anthropology Museum of Madrid, the Subway System of Madrid and the Museum Cristobal Gabarron in Valladolid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
