STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Repurposed art is a passion sparked by reclaiming hardback Reader’s Digest<\/em> books from the 1960s and 70s and creating an ongoing series, “COVER UPS”. Remembering the relentless monthly arrival of these editions throughout my childhood, and realising that most people have boxes stored away somewhere–I wanted to rescue them from landfill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I break down the structure of each hardback publication into “canvas” using the beautifully printed cover, selecting images and text to create a whole new narrative by adding a stroke of paint. Drama, romance, intrigue, humour, nostalgia\u2026these are some of the qualities evoked in each unique artwork which is sealed and ready to hang. Very transportable anywhere in the known world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a BA in Textiles, Caroline della Porta established CdP Illustration in London in 1985 with clients from the design and publishing sectors, fringe and establishment. Never one to shy away from a commission, her portfolio is varied with a strong compositional narrative. A move to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2000 with a young family pushed her creative boundaries further: An ongoing series of collage works made entirely from the hardback Reader’s Digest<\/em> books from the 1960s and 70s was the result. Over 150 to date and owned by ex-Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, comedian Sandi Toskvig and journalist Kim Hill amongst
others!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is also an Art Educator with a particular interest in youth potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Della Porta was twice finalist for the New Zealand Portrait Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
