STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My work focuses on responding to experiences in the military and the effects that serving has on our veterans and their families through the materiality of process and the vitality of material. The process of developing, and responding to the painting is the driving factor within my work. Throughout these processes, the viewer will see the historical record of actions, and reactions, allowing for the \u201csoul\u201d of the piece to emerge. These actions, based on examining past experiences, allow for an outpouring of energy. I am portraying this rawness and vitality in my work, as I respond to these experiences. The chosen information is based on material that usually falls outside of the traditional fine art community. This material has the ability to transform its presence, appearing as something else while also being able to portray itself. The imagery of collaged papers, fabric and cardboard combined with adhesives and painted gestures presents as a physical overwhelming image for each viewer to encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Ahart is a mixed media artist and active duty Soldier serving in the National Guard for over 20 years. His work is based on his experiences in the military that includes multiple combat tours. His work focuses on the impact that military service has on mental health issues with service members and veterans. Peter\u2019s paintings have been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions throughout the St. Louis and Peoria metro area. He earned his MFA in 2020 in Painting from Bradley University, and his BFA from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
