STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My work explores memory, place, and the constructed environment through collage, encaustic, and mixed media. I build layered surfaces from paper, drawing, and reclaimed materials, assembling fragments into textured compositions that blur the boundaries between painting, collage, and relief sculpture. Each piece develops through accumulation\u2014cutting, layering, scraping, and reworking\u2014so that history remains visible within the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rooted in drawing, my practice often begins with observations of interiors, architecture, birds, and the natural world. These forms evolve into intimate spaces, small structures, and narrative fragments that suggest shelter, vulnerability, and connection to place. In recent years, my work has expanded from two dimensions into sculptural and diorama-like constructions, extending collage into physical space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concern for the environment informs both subject and process. I frequently incorporate found and sustainable materials\u2014cardboard, paper pulp, and reclaimed wood\u2014allowing the work itself to embody reuse and transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marcie Wolf-Hubbard is a mixed media and encaustic artist whose work combines collage, drawing, and sculptural construction to explore memory, architecture, and the natural world. Her layered surfaces and small-scale structures merge painting and collage with relief and assemblage, extending two-dimensional processes into space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her work has been exhibited widely on the East Coast and has been supported by numerous grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, including residencies, project grants, and professional development awards. She is a recipient of the Nancy Frankel Artist Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wolf-Hubbard teaches workshops and classes at Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture, Yellow Barn Studio & Gallery, and Smithsonian Associates. She is a member of Washington Sculptors Group and Teaching Artists of the Mid-Atlantic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
