STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’d like to think that my work has a pessimistic political reference–my first collage was in 2012, under the title there is no longer outside<\/em>. It was a period when Greece was deeply affected by an economic crisis, which strongly reflected on the society; therefore, on the image of the city of Athens. There is no longer outside<\/em> was an effort to depict the concept of infinite interior, the dystopic concept of capitalism as a system able to assimilate any voice of resistance. Since then, I have continued exploring digital collage and Athens. Its urban condition has always been a strong inspiration for me. Coming from the field of architecture, I\u2019m deeply interested in the dynamics of space and the built environment, the urban lifestyle and its aesthetics, the pleasure of urbanity as a space of togetherness and isolation at the same time: those are the concepts I try to explore as a digital artist.<\/p>\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Danai Gkoni is an architect and digital artist. She has lived, studied and worked in Greece and the Netherlands. During her studies, she developed a keen interest in the contemporary urban condition. Coming from the field of architectural collage, since 2013 she has been exploring a particular style of digital illustration, narrating surreal and sometimes dystopic urban stories.<\/p>\n
