STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am drawn to working with materials that show evidence of having a history, often times discarded, which can then be used to create something new and unexpected. Whether it is old books, photographs, ephemera, or found paper, the fact that the materials are salvaged allows for a certain freedom in creating a new composition. Working with a limited supply of a certain colour, image, or text adds to the challenge and guides the work. Often times, it is one small piece that starts the process of adding and subtracting as a conversation begins to take place. I especially enjoy watching how colours actively push and pull each other. By pre-cutting pieces in a variety of sizes without much measurement, I get to intuitively puzzle what turns into a patchwork or mosaic in a meditative way. I welcome the quiet and presence found process of letting go of what isn\u2019t working and staying open to new possibilities.<\/p>\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kerith Lisi is a California native and mixed media artist living in the San Francisco Bay Area. She studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and earned a B.A. in International Relations from UC Davis, as well as completing studies abroad at the University of Pisa in Italy. Notable exhibitions include a three-person show \u201cOf Method and Materials\u201d at SLATE Art in Oakland and the Altered Book Exhibition at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. Kerith has served on the Board of the non-profit Art Bias, located in San Carlos, since 2016. Kerith is a featured artist in Encyclopedia of Inspiration: Ephemera<\/em> by UPPERCASE, for her collection and work with collage material.<\/p>\n

Kerith lives and works in San Carlos, California with her husband and two children and is represented by SLATE Art in Oakland.<\/p>\n
