STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring gay male sexuality through the lens of pop culture imagery, distorted memory and vicarious nostalgia, my work encompasses collage, mixed media, and monoprinting. I am interested in male camaraderie, desire and loneliness, as well as emotions related to body image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using solvent or acrylic based image transfers from vintage magazines and photos, the work features classic beefcake, soft gay porn, automobiles, and airplane propellers, along with transparent layers of color in acrylic or ink creating depth and complexity, enhancing the sense of memory altered, distorted and rewritten through the passage of time. The works focus on body image and desire, plus a fantasy for what might have been\u2014unexplored relationships or missed connections. While the work delves into the universal experience of loneliness, it also offers hope in the form of potential intimacy and companionship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitchell Goldberg is a lifelong resident of Westchester County, New York; and a Sarah Lawrence College graduate, class of 1984. Goldberg has studied printmaking at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, Fused Glass with Dorothy Hafner and Polyurethane Resin with Luis Perelman. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goldberg currently lives in Scarsdale, New York, and has a studio in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Mitchell Goldberg has been the director of the Upstream Gallery in Hastings on Hudson, New York from 2009 through the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
