STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I approach my studio as a scientist approaches the laboratory. I set up experiments for myself and try to find the answers using paint, papers, line, shape and color. The ephemera of life plays an important part in solving the problem. I collect images that reflect the world back to me and often use them in my art work. If the experiment works, I have the privilege of sharing the part of the world that is myself with anyone who is interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gayle grew up watching the women of her family sew, decorate and pursue many different kinds of craft activities. Handiwork and crafts were always a part of her life, so it seemed natural that she should pursue the arts as a vocation even though it happened later in her life. Gayle has made the art museums of the world her study halls and loves to talk, teach, and think about art. She especially enjoys the medium of collage because it allows her to use the stuff of everyday life in the form the paper scraps, advertising, text and ephemera to embed evidence of our culture directly into the art pieces she creates. She considers herself an experimental artist and in her studio is always asking the question \u201cWhat will happen if I do this?\u201d

She is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and the National Collage Society. She is also a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Collage
Society. She teaches experimental mixed media classes at the Art Center in Grand Junction, Colorado and does contract workshops in creative processes. Her work has been in many national juried shows and featured in Kolaj Magazine<\/em>, Watercolor Artist, GV Magazine, Incite-The Best of Mixed Medi<\/em>a and on the cover of the UNESCO World Heritage Forest Report<\/em> for 2011. She shows her work in many venues statewide and maintains a studio in Grand Junction, Colorado. Her art is in many private and public collections. Gayle was born in Troy, New York in 1948 and currently lives in the shadow of the Colorado National Monument in Grand Junction, Colorado as she has for more than thirty years with her husband, George. George and Gayle have two grown children and enjoy traveling throughout the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
