Colin Talcroft STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n I have made drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs since childhood. Collage is a newer pursuit (since summer 2013)\u2014but one I\u2019ve quickly come to enjoy. I paint with abandon on paper, cut the paintings up and glue them back together in new ways, or I paint on paper and use still-wet colours to print onto other sheets of paper that I then manipulate, or I make monoprints (pressing paper directly onto colours spread on glass) and these monoprints become the raw material for my collages. I enjoy seeing compositions emerge from the paper elements as I arrange and contemplate them. I hope you enjoy looking at my collages as much as I enjoy making them.<\/p>\n BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n Colin Talcroft is a self-taught artist active in a range of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and photography. He became interested in photography at the age of eight and began drawing at an earlier age. Figure drawing has been a life-long interest, and the nude has figured prominently in his photographic work. In the realm of abstract art, he has worked extensively as a printmaker and more recently in collage. Printmaking has included traditional methods such as etching and woodblock printing, but many of his prints use methods of his own\u2014for example, printing from corrugated board and from found objects such as twine, bubble plastic, and paper cutouts.<\/p>\n His work is in private collections in the US and Japan. Gallery shows of printmaking have included solo shows at Suikatou, in Tokyo (1995), at Suikatou again (1996), and at Mominoki Gallery, also in Tokyo (1997). His photography has been shown at The Canvas Gallery, in San Francisco (2006) and The Spinster Sisters, in Santa Rosa (2015). Photographs have been published in Naked<\/em> (2004, Feierabend Press, Berlin) and in Nudes 3: The Best of International Nude Photography<\/em> (2012, Feierabend Unique Books, Berlin). Collage works were included in the \u201cSmall Works Show\u201d at Gallery 1337, in San Rafael, California (2013) and in \u201cThe Art of Collage\u201d on the Art Wall at Shige Sushi, Cotati, California (2014), in a solo show at The Spinster Sisters, Santa Rosa, California (2015), and recently in group shows at The O\u2019Hanlon Center for the Arts, Mill Valley, California, The Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Sebastopol, California, and The Healdsburg Center for the Arts, Healdsburg, California (all 2016). One of his collage works will appear on an Imagery Estate artist\u2019s wine label in 2017.<\/p>\n Talcroft is the creator of Serendipitous Art, a blog that collects examples of unintended art he finds on a daily basis. Other interests include wine and winemaking, beekeeping, and bird watching.
