Monoprinting is the most immediate of all the printmaking techniques so I use this a lot especially for line work.

I am a mother of 3 children always trying to fit in time to paint in my studio. We are lucky to be living in one of the lovely black-and-white colonial houses in Singapore and I have a separate studio attached to the house. I paint in the evenings and when my baby is sleeping in the day.

At the moment I am working on a diptych of Raffles Hotel as part of my Singapore Series.

BIO

In 2011, I had my first solo show in Singapore at S.A.G.G. Singapore Art Garret Gallery featuring paintings and collages or mixed media pieces inspired by Singapore and Southeast Asia: Buddha Heads, Botanicals such as Ginger Flowers, and collages and mixed media works of my Life Drawings.

I have also exhibited in Singapore at Fringe Art Gallery in group shows and a two-woman show on meditative art with Sam Ryva.

I have raised money for The Elephant Nature Foundation, Thailand, The Muscular Dystrophy Association and others by donation of artworks for auction at charity events.

In London, I have exhibited in many group shows, I am not represented by a gallery but I sell works privately and have international collectors in Sydney, Thailand, New York and Europe

My work, a hand-bound book of monoprints of life drawings called Related to the Figure, was purchased by the special collections department of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Commercially, my print designs and illustrations has been commissioned by Unicef, Oxfam, Tangs of Singapore, Liberty of London, Tie Rack, and Debenhams.

I am enjoying our stint in Asia. We are here because of my husband’s job, but this has been great for my art. Not only do the fantastic travel experiences around the area give me a huge wealth of inspiration, but I have a great home studio and have sold more work here than I used to in London.

ARTIST CONTACT

[click to email]
www.clarehaxby.com

IMAGES

Male Figure Standing and Sitting
92 cm x 122 cm; newsprint and acrylic applied with brush and nozzle; 2011

Hothouse in The Tropics
100 cm x 100 cm; acrylic, monoprint, and Chinese paper; 2011

[15
62
