STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’ve been a scavenger all my life. I find objects (or let objects find me) and adopt them, giving them a second life. For my artwork, I utilize various found materials and re-invent or deconstruct them, assembling them in such a way as to isolate them from their original use. I\u2019m always discovering things when making a piece, respectful of the roles chance and “happy mistakes” can play. Often humour gets exposed as well. For me, the most exciting part of the creative process is in the revealing of the hidden or unknown.<\/p>\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jonathan Brown creates collage, assemblage and films using found materials.<\/p>\n

Jonathan was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1967 of American parents and soon after moved to Texas. In 1990, he received his fine arts degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas.<\/p>\n

In 1994 he moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he formed a part of KAOS, an exhibition co-operative for emerging artists. He later became one half of Los Superocheros, a duo who utilized multiple super-8 film projectors to create a \u201clive\u201d experimental collage of found footage. Los Superocheros performed at various film festivals in Europe, including The Rotterdam Film Festival, the Dr. Music Festival and the Xcentric Film Festival at the Center of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona (CCCB). Jonathan\u2019s video collages later formed a significant part of Spanish art culture TV show Boing Boing Buddha<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Jonathan has called Amsterdam his home since 2003. His work has been featured on Dutch book covers and magazines, as well as CD sleeves and booklets. Heavily involved with the art collective AWA, Jonathan exhibited his work on a bi-weekly basis for years through the group\u2019s \u201cBeehive Project\u201d at the OT301 Gallery. In 2013, his works were included in the official selection of the Spring Exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen. He continues creating collage, assemblage and sculpture and exhibiting his work throughout Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n
