I approach the compositions much like a painter, choosing a specific palette. A great deal of the content of each collage is completely hidden, or only slightly revealed. I am compelled to place layer upon layer until I feel satisfied. My baroque constructions are a culmination of aesthetic gratification and impulse. My most recent series uses icons from pop culture and history as focal points. I think of these works as gardens that have grown and developed over time to envelop the treasures beneath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colleen Cunningham was born in Warsaw, New York in 1977. Her current works are detailed paper collages. Colleen earned a BFA from Pratt Institute in 2003 and a MFA from the University at Buffalo in 2008. Colleen has participated in dozens of exhibitions across the United States and Europe; including the Islip Art Museum (New York), Galleria dell\u2019Ombra (Italy), Field Projects (New York), Thompson Gallery (Massachusetts), CEPA Gallery (New York) and most recently at the Williamsburg Art &amp; Historical Center (New York), Andrew Edlin Gallery (New York), and Alvin Gittins Gallery (Utah).
