STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have been been putting glue to paper since I can remember. Having been born in the prairies of Saskatchewan to a Alsatian father, Acadian mother, and now living in Waterloo via Toronto, I am convinced that the puzzle that is my history was the founding of my fascination with bringing disparate images into one cohesive whole. I have studied and worked in the field of Fashion Marketing prior to moving my focus back into a fine arts discipline. Further studies have also brought me to be certified as a Creative Coach and Expressive Arts Therapist.<\/p>\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Catherine Mellinger is mixed media collage artist whose works find inspiration in ideas originated by the feminist artists of the Dada period as well as the early Surrealists, lending to the exploration of dichotomy in many of Mellinger\u2019s works. She seeks to create works of beauty whose themes are not always beautiful; grappling with trauma, loss and mental illness. Inspired by female artists such as Hannah Hoch, her works use vintage paper ephemera and personal photographs mixed with pencil, pen, and watercolour. A suite of collages were most recently published within the book Deep Salt Water<\/em> by Marianne Apostolides<\/a> (BookThug) in April 2017. She is currently continuing her research on a series based on identity and cultural appropriation.<\/p>\n

Her works have been published in literary magazines, and she has been commissioned by musicians, writers and private collectors. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and having studied in Toronto, Catherine now lives Waterloo, Ontario with her husband and two sons.<\/p>\n
