STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collage is the medium through which I’ve found my voice as an artist. It provides an avenue for responding to world events as I transform newsprint imagery and mixed media into art. I strive to make each collage painterly in appearance, luring viewers with its beauty before confronting them with intimate and sometimes painful detail. These are the stories of strangers made personal through my retelling. I want the viewer to find his or her place in the narrative as I attempt to offer an antidote to the news of the day in addition to commentary on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rebecca S. Cohen, a graduate of Philadelphia\u2019s Moore College of Art and Design, has explored myriad aspects of the art world. She worked for eight years as founding director of R.S. Levy Gallery and as an art consultant, freelance arts writer and author of Art Guide Texas<\/em>, published by University of Texas Press. Cohen has exhibited in the East Austin Studio Tour, Placitas Studio Tour, Austin\u2019s Shoal Creek Gallery, Moore College of Art and Design Gallery, the Albuquerque Museum of Art, Lasell College, Newton, Massachusetts and was selected for eligibility in the New Mexico Only Art in Public Places Initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
