STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the past year, I have been working on a series of mixed media collage constructions entitled \u201cVisual Essays: Elemental Singularities.\u201d This series is comprised of sixteen 12 x 12 in. birch plywood panels and utilize photographs, printed ephemera, and correspondence collected over the past forty years with the intent that I would use this material for visual expression and fine art. Since college in the mid-1970s I have been inspired by the work of modernist and avant garde artists Kurt Schwitters (German, 1887-1948) and Joseph Cornell (American, 1903-1972). These collage panels express my life\u2019s passions and pains, joys and losses, and the fundamental aspects of my spirit, soul, and being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richard Poulin is a design consultant, educator, author, and fine artist living in southern California. His forty-year career has focused on a generalist approach to all aspects of design, including graphic design, environmental graphic design, interior design, and exhibition design. Since 1986, he has divided his time between professional practice and academia, establishing a highly successful reputation as co-founder and design director of Poulin + Morris Inc., an internationally recognized design consultant firm in New York City, as well as a highly respected reputation as an adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts and Cooper Union. Richard is also a frequent lecturer and contributor to design publications both in the United States and abroad. He has written seven books on design to date, which have been translated into eight languages and are used by students and practitioners around the world. His new book, a comprehensive monograph, Rudolph de Harak: An American Modernist<\/em>, will be released at the end of 2020 by Thames & Hudson\u2019s (London) new imprint, Volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
