Susanna Lakner’s third book at Redfoxpress, lllustriertes Spielbuch f\u00fcr M\u00e4dchen (Illustrated Playbook for Girls)<\/em> is an altered book, based on the play Der Tod des Tizian (The Dead of Titian)<\/em> written by Hugo von Hofmannsthal in 1892.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lakner found the book on the rummaging table of an antiquarian bookshop and made a collage book from the illustrations of an occupation book for girls from the 18th century, images of a medical book and a French Larousse lexicon. She kept the title of the girl\u2019s book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Von Hofmannsthal’s texts give the images bizarre, Dadaistic twists and turns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
