Renowned for his storied career in independent cinema, Jarmusch’s creative expressions span writing, producing, music, poetry and fine art. Published by Anthology Editions, this new release includes a foreword by Luc Sante and an essay by Randy Kennedy.

untitled by Jim Jarmusch
from SOME COLLAGES by Jim Jarmusch, Published by ANTHOLOGY EDITIONS; 2021

“This is a collection you might keep in your pocket as you would a tarot deck, opening it at the corner of the bar to practice cartomancy atop the day’s New York Post.”
Randy Kennedy

Over the years, Jarmusch has honed his collage practice, producing hundreds of works using newspaper clippings layered on cardstock. Newsprint imagery is cleverly and humorously manipulated, heads and faces are removed and replaced with juxtaposing or absurd imagery. Doppelgänger Andy Warhols are posed in a vast tunnel not unlike the depths of the Large Hadron Collider, Patty Hearst’s mugshots drift across Edwardian portraits, and a man’s identity is disguised with a coyote’s head: maybe he was a celebrity, politician, perp, or all three. In Some Collages, these small-scale (notecard-size) pieces not only pay homage to the documentation medium but are a reminder of how even mundane images can be reconfigured into work that is alternatively funny, scary and strange.

untitled by Jim Jarmusch
from SOME COLLAGES by Jim Jarmusch, Published by ANTHOLOGY EDITIONS; 2021

Seeing Jarmusch’s collages is like flipping through the Daily Bugle and suddenly realizing that the paper has been taken over by pranksters who are giving you the real news . . . .Your vision has been corrected.
