Scissor Sisters Collage Collective (SSCC)

Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom

HISTORY

Scissor Sisters Collage Collective (SSCC) was founded in May 2025 by analogue collage artist Sarah Merton. A feminist punk librarian and passionate advocate for collage, Merton embraced a DIY philosophy to build a creative community after finding no existing cut-and-paste collective in Wales.

MISSION

SSCC champions collage and the humble art of cutting and sticking in a screen-saturated society. Through free monthly “cut-ups,” the collective brings together emerging and experienced collagists and paper artists, building connections and grassroots ties among practitioners across Wales.

KEY ACTIVITIES

Monthly cut-ups offer an opportunity to share a cuppa, conversation, and members’ latest projects. The collective is compiling work for a group exhibition at its host venue, Gallery 57, and welcomes ideas for collaborative projects with other collage collectives.

MEETINGS

SSCC meets on the first Thursday of every month, 13:00-15:00, at Gallery 57, Unit 9, Chartist Tower, Upper Dock St, Newport NP20 1DX. The collective comprises ten collagists at varying stages of their practice.

JOIN

Emerging and experienced collagists and paper artists are welcome. Bring your scissors and join a cut-up at Gallery 57; gatherings are completely free to attend. For enquiries or collaborative project ideas, contact Sarah Merton at sarahmerton@outlook.com.
