HISTORY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In January 2018, a group of eight artists began a collaborative art experiment. What would happen if each artist worked in succession on sixteen pieces of art? Beginning with a 15\u201d square of sturdy paper, each artist needed to complete a layer in a month, the work must stay flat enough to mail, and should include documentary notes on the back of the piece. Beyond these guidelines, anything was allowed,\u201d artist Carlyn Clark writes. \u201cEach layer required a different approach and anew way of proceeding.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eight original members are S. Portico Bowman, Carlyn Clark, Johnny Fox, Margaret Lazzari, Luke Reichle, Chris Russell, Caryl St. Ama, Nancy Kay Turner. They participated in the collaborative collage project, \u201cRut\/Route\/Lane\u201d, each at the invitation of Nancy Kay Turner. As \u201cRut\/Route\/Lane\u201d was nearing completion, the eight members decided to create a collective art identity for future projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaborations foster the independence, uniqueness and the skill of individual artists, while also producing results that transcend anyone artist\u2019s vision. In addition, Hana Kark is an experiment in developing business models that are suitable for this hybrid kind of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MISSION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hana Kark makes visual art in communal conditions, emulating what is common in music, theater, and film. Hana Kark\u2019s projects use various models of collaboration that balance the self and group in artmaking with artists who may work alone but are connected at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JOIN<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hana Kark is one small module of 8artists at this time, which they believe is ideal for collaboration. Rather than expand in size, they would be interested in becoming part of a network of other Hana Kark modules which other artists would start either locally or globally. Social media is best for seeing their work during the pandemic. Once it has passed, Hana Kark will return to doing exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KEY ACTIVITIES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Projects<\/strong>
Hana Kark is project focused. Their current effort is a digital project titled \u201cArt in the Time of Cholera\/Collage in the Time of Covid\u201d. Final presentation will be on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
