Feminist Collage at Women’s Center for Creative Work in Los Angeles
In northeast Los Angeles’ Frogtown neighbourhood, tucked in a one-story building at the end of a dead-end street, is the Women’s Center for Creative Work (WCCW). The organization was founded in 2013 and put down roots at 2425 Glover Place, along the bank of the Los Angeles River, in May 2015. Claiming a “radically expansive understanding” of both creative practice and feminism, the WCCW operates with a rhizomatic, node-based approach (think spider plant) that fosters and accommodates a gleamingly ambitious roster of programs, workshops and performances. One of these is collage night with Lucy Cook.
In Kolaj #15, Rachel Jones writes, “Collage night’s particular blend of casual community and critical rigor, of art-making as social craft (and vice versa), has helped to make it a staple activity at the Women’s Center for Creative Work.”

”This will be a structured lab, dedicated to personal expression, material exploration, and artistic discovery. We will collage side-by-side, making and discussing together. Each participant will develop a body of work — one that creates a narrative, experiments with materials, and explores process and generative ways of making.”
