Sarah Perkins references fables and folklore and she combines found imagery with her own mark making and samples from art history. Pine and holly enrobe portraits of women like festive holiday burkas. Red ribbons dance around the figures whose eyes stare at the viewer from behind their floral masks. Since studying at Chelsea School of Art and Central St Martins, Sarah Perkins has been working successfully and internationally as a freelance London-based illustrator for over thirty years. Her commissions cover literary fiction, classics, popular fiction and gift books, as well as editorial and design. Perkins has received awards from Elle magazine; Reader’s Digest; The AOI; D&AD; Waterstones; Winsor and Newton and Transport for London. Her clients include The Royal Opera House; Penguin Books; BBC; The Royal Shakespeare Co; The Times; The Telegraph; Time Magazine; Little Brown; Random House; Scottish National Ballet; Ernst and Young; Good Housekeeping and Reader’s Digest.
