Michael Church says about his art practice, “I have no desire to understand art. I do however have a strong desire to confront myself through artistic ventures. The urgent connection between creation and destruction are on display within the pieces I’ve broken apart, then reconnected. It is in this space that I speak of the world around me, and to the voice within myself simultaneously.”

Ariane Fairlie profiled Michael Church in an Artist Portfolio in Kolaj Magazine Issue 12. She wrote:

Michael Church’s collages create a ghostly realm. There is an element of torture or the incomplete in each. Wake Me When It’s Over (2013) echoes the atmosphere of The Scream (1893) by Edvard Munch in its turbulent sky and even a similar composition. The grey colour and body language of the woman emphasize this inner struggle, and the vast road states an emptiness she feels of the world around her.

Michael Church lives and works in Little Rock, Arkansas. To learn more about him and his work, visit his Kolaj Magazine Artist Directory page HERE.
