Collage Technique Workshop with Jonathan Talbot: 12-13 September 2015
“ABC” presents cutting edge work in assemblage, book art and collage. The show is co-curated by book artist Sue Cotter; Deborah K. Snider, SUU Associate Professor of Art Education; and the New York-based, internationally acclaimed collagist Jonathan Talbot, who invited artists from across the United States to share their intriguing, inspiring and creatively provocative work. In conjunction with “ABC”, seven artworks from the collection of Book Art at the University of Utah will be displayed in the Gerald R. Sherratt Library on Southern Utah University’s campus.
Also in conjunction with “ABC”, on the weekend of 12-13 September, Jonathan Talbot conducts the workshop, “Collage Techniques & Creative Exploration”. Exploring technique and creativity, the workshop examines composition, collage without liquid adhesives, paperless transfer of printed and photocopies images, preserving found materials, creating a personal style and more. Talbot’s work has been exhibited at The National Academy and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and has represented the United States overseas in exhibitions sponsored by the State Department and the Smithsonian Institution. Among the public collections holding Talbot works are The Newark Museum, The Smith College Museum, The Everhart Museum, The Byer Museum, The Free Library of Philadelphia, The San Francisco Academy of Art, Fairleigh Dickinson University, The Provincetown Historical Society and the Toronto Central Library. The fee for the workshop is $300, which includes all tools and materials and a copy of Talbot’s book, Collage: A New Approach.
