“Fish Tales”: Katie McCann and Marsha Balian
10 November 2015-9 January 2016

Opening reception: Saturday, 14 November, 6-8PM

Artists Katie McCann and Marsha Balian present their latest “fish” inspired collage and mixed media art.

There are three elements that compel the production of art for Marsha Balian: mystery, invention, and the power of story, her own and others’. Her work often incorporates found objects, including what might be available on the floor of her studio. Since invention doesn’t require adherence to any rules, her art avoids katie-mccann-gold-fish-webwhat might be literal and attempts to engage the imagination of the viewer. Humour is never far behind. Learn more at her Kolaj Magazine Artist Directory page: HERE.

Both artists live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Katie McCann says about her work, “I am rooted in the tradition of old fashioned childhood, where discovery was at the bottom of the garden in amongst the crushed leaves, the lilac, the beetles and the fungi. I hope that the creatures that I uncovered in that quiet, magical landscape are reflected in my collages.” Learn more at her Kolaj Magazine Artist Directory page: HERE.
