Aliciama writes, “I am Mexican and I live in France. The plan was to come for one year… and now four have passed. How much longer? I don’t know. It’s strange, but here I feel more Mexican than I did back home. Being here awakens something deep within me, as if my surroundings were guiding me back to myself, inviting me to recognize and redefine who I am. I tell myself that I want to integrate, that I want to embrace my two nations as if they were one—fusing them until they coexist within me. That way, I won’t feel divided.”

“I write. Words emerge from within; I want them to speak to me, to explain me. I continue writing, but words are not always enough, and so I turn to graphic expression. What I feel takes shape through images. My hands move, explore, and assemble. There is something—like a magical glue—that unifies my worlds. My body reacts as I create: with some works I laugh; with others, I cry; sometimes my stomach tightens; sometimes I freeze—but most of the time, I enjoy the process. With each and every one of my works, I am transformed… My art is a way of bringing harmony to what lives within me. To embrace two cultures is, in truth, to embrace myself.”
