COLLAGE ON VIEW

Tierney & Bruckner

in the Join the Dots Window Gallery in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
3-9 February 2021

In response to the changing nature of social gathering, the artists from Join the Dots collective have come together to present a new street-facing group show, reinvigorating the streets of Marrickville and leading a COVID-recovery for the arts.

From 27 January to 23 March, ten artists working across a range of disciplines will exhibit work made during 2020 in a newly established “window gallery” on Victoria Road.

Funded by an Inner West Council grant, this rolling exhibition showcases a variety of works ranging from sculpture and print-making, to video and live performance art.

Collage artist Steve Tierney and photographer Tanja Bruckner, working as Tierney and Bruckner, present work from their ongoing collaboration from 3-9 February. In Kolaj 24, Ric Kasini Kadour wrote, “With this collage series, Tierney is doing something different, something deeper and self reflective. Working with photographer Tanja Bruckner, he made his own source materials using his body, violating gender norms by holding his body in a way that men aren’t supposed to. That performative act not only created material for the series, it informed Tierney’s thinking. He writes, ‘This new series was an opportunity to insert myself into my work. By collaborating with a photographer and making myself the subject matter, I was able to express my own emotions directly and far more powerfully than if I had chosen to use a model.’

The exhibition can be viewed from Victoria Road 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Information on sales will be available on site.
