Maria Filek: Kolaże

at Billy Wilder Culture & Film Centre in Sucha Beskidzka, Poland
26 January-10 March 2026

The exhibition, curated by Magdalena Leśnikowska, Karolina Glanowska, and Krzysztof Kachel, presents over 40 works by collage artist Maria Filek, created over the years. All the collages were cut by hand.

Maria Filek is from Wadowice, Poland. She is a long-time art teacher and a graduate of the Institute of Art at the University of Silesia in Cieszyn. In her work, she uses graphic techniques, ceramics, and collage. She is attached to drawing, black lines, ink, and pen. She believes that her interests were influenced in the past by Daniel Mróz’s drawings published in the weekly magazine Przekrój.

Filek appreciates nature most of all and puts it first in her creative work. For her creative work, she needs peace and quiet, long evenings, and atmospheric music in the background. For her collages, she uses materials she has made herself and clippings from colorful magazines. Peculiar details and color harmony are important. For her, gluing a collage is a great test of patience.
