Birthe Çil: Layers, Fragments, Memories

at zahn & art in Berlin, Germany
14 July 2025-July 2026

In the exhibition space, zahn & art, located within a dental practice in Berlin-Mitte, mixed-media collage artist, Birthe Çil, is creating visual worlds from historical papers, forgotten everyday documents, and poetic fragments–exploring memory, the passage of time, and the visual potential of found materials.

Rollage by Birthe Cil

Her analog works combine cut-outs from vintage books, letters, maps, and magazines with her own monoprints. Cutting, layering, and gluing are central techniques in her compositions. Many pieces feature female figures, positioned within finely balanced, often ambiguous visual settings. Alongside her figurative mixed-media collages, the exhibition includes a selection of abstract works–pieces in which the patina, texture, and provenance of the paper emerge as narrative elements in their own right.
