Merged: A National Juried Exhibition of Collage and Assemblage

at d’Art Center in Norfolk, Virginia, USA
10 January- 7 February 2026

“Merged” is an exhibition of original 2D and 3D collage and assemblage artworks that includes mediums specifically (but not limited to) found objects, recycled materials, paper, fiber, wood, and metal. This will be the “Merged” exhibit’s 4th iteration at the center.

This exhibition features The Words They Told Us We Cannot Use by Jennifer Myhre, which was made during Kolaj Institute’s 2025 Politics in Collage residency. The artist writes, “This collage is made from deconstructed text of the words that folks in government agencies were told to remove from websites and other documents: anti-racism, racism, allyship, bias, DEI, diversity, diverse, confirmation bias, equity, equitableness, gender, gender identity, pronouns, transgender, injustice, intersectionality, prejudice, privilege, racial identity, sexuality, stereotypes, equality, inclusion, inclusive, all-inclusive, inclusivity, racism, feminism. The material for the letters is deliberately luscious and shimmery to evoke their power as conceptual tools. They can be read as either spilled out or as a river whose flow cannot be dammed.”
