COLLAGE ON VIEW
Erica Trabold: Nourishing Flourishes
at La Luz de Jesus in Los Angeles, California, USA
9 January-1 February 2026
Collage artist Erica Trabold exhibits the newest works from her ongoing series “Nourishing Flourishes”. In this series, there lies an exaggerated tension between homemaking and artmaking. Playing off the misogynistic aesthetics of traditional “women’s work”, Trabold mixes advertising and recipe images to create ostentatious displays of magical realism. They are equally ironic displays as they are respectful towards the labor of effective and crowd-pleasing housework.
For Trabold, art as resistance to “women’s work” manifests in two mediums, essay and collage, each one layering textures of care, critique, and unruliness. The meal in the frame is never meant to be eaten. The presentation itself is the point, offering something that nourishes imagination rather than obligation.

The artist wrote, “As a mother, I am interested in what it means to prepare food on the page…instead of in the kitchen. And since becoming a mother, collage has become my primary creative outlet and a natural extension of my writing practice…While the viral tradwives of the internet serve their families only the best, I am interested in preparing food on the page instead of in the kitchen.”
