COLLAGE ON VIEW
Still as the World is Never Still
at the Cambridge Art Association Canal Gallery, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
22 January-20 February 2026
This exhibition brings together ten artists whose works explore the concept of holding onto what cannot be held. They embrace the fleeting–the shift of a season, cycles of birth and death among all, the wonderfulness of love, and the sad, beautiful, craziness that is the experience of living. Their practice of making art seeks to capture that which is elusive–to create a moment of stillness in the midst of the inexorable forward movement of time. Through their own personal driving forces, studio practice, and medium, each artist deals with this idea.

The title of the exhibition is a line from the Louise Glück poem “The Doorway”, a work that wanes on the want to pause in that moment, full of potential, just before flowering. This exhibition is taking place at a time of year when everything appears quiet and still, beneath the surface, natural changes are underway in preparation for new beginnings–spring. Seeds, bulbs, and beans contain all the energy they need to germinate, grow, and bloom when the conditions are right–and just as the first flower forms–that moment, where the possibility of what is about to emerge becomes endless and magical, nothing is as yet past.
A still, still as the world is never still.
