\u201cDisparate Roots: Contemporary Collage\u201d features seven contemporary artists and their unique approach to collage.<\/p>\n

The works differ dramatically in size, from the small detailed landscapes of Casey Ruble to the massive photography collage that span two walls by Jennifer Williams, and in the materials employed, from the 19th century letters found by Leslie Hirst to the 1930s Spanish handwriting books used by Tamar Cohen.<\/p>\n

Also featured in this exhibition is Raven Schlossberg’s work in which domestic realities and images of idealized nature are collaged, Megan Greene who has taken images and inspiration from books about old Hollywood, 1970s children\u2019s games and 19th-century prints to explore the awkwardness of the body dislocated from its purpose and natural gravity, and finally Maritta Tapanainen who was drawn to the flaws that occurred in the printing process of 20th century medical and scientific textbooks that lend an unintended uniqueness to machine-made drawings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exhibition offers a way of showing the process of collage and how it inspires contemporary artists,\u201d said Tara Riley Chazen, guest curator for the exhibition.<\/p>\n
