Collagist Simon Blake Directs Crystal Hot Sauce Campaign<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

New Orleans-based collage artist Simon Blake is no stranger to animation. His films have been shown at prestigious locales, including Sundance, garnered two AICP awards and are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. If you’re driving around New Orleans these days, you may just see his work on a billboard or two. Blake directed a campaign for Crystal Hot Sauce that uses collage to show off Louisiana culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alligators ride the streetcar. Skeletons play in a jazz band. A woman in the French Quarter catches a hot sauce-dressed oyster poboy. The campaign, \u201cHow New Orleans Does Flavor\u201d, will run in print, on billboards, as well as in television spots and on social media. Blake worked with more than a dozen artists on the campaign and the video is set to music created by local musicians. To make the spot, Blake used “original New Orleans street art, vintage ephemera and original artwork drawn, photographed, cut out and combined in Adobe After Effects and animated in multiple layers.” Blake worked with SFX\/Editor Mike Sanchez. Donny Markowitz composed the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
