Tim Harper’s Artist Portfolio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Collage artists are brilliant at collecting, interpreting, and rehabilitating print ephemera. Tim Harper does this with object material culture. \u201cI collect things that I find interesting: scrap wood and metal, pieces of machinery, dried vegetation and flowers, anything I think has some visual potential. These become my library of materials,\u201d wrote the artist. A portfolio of Harper’s work appears in Kolaj<\/em> 32 and the assemblage, Three Wheel<\/em>, appears on the cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My very favorite thing is to show a piece at a gallery and have someone tell me what kind of story they see.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Tim Harper has been a tinkerer, maker, and sculptor since his dad first let him play with tools in the garage sometime back in the early 1980s. Following five years as a Financial Analyst, he went back to school to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. Tim now works professionally as a graphic designer, builds found object assemblages and kinetic machines, and designs public sculpture. His work has been shown in solo and group shows throughout the mid-Atlantic, and Tim has taught kinetic sculpture classes to children and adults. He is a founding partner of the award-winning collaborative Lively\/Harper Environmental Sculpture. Harper lives and works in Midlothian, Virginia.
