Founded in 1987, the Cimarron National became a prestigious national juried exhibition. Held biennially at the Gardiner Gallery of Art from 1987 to 1995, the exhibition was a statement of the commitment to innovation in printmaking at the university and remains a testament to the rich holdings of works on paper in the gallery and university museum collection. The first exhibition was juried by the writer and former curator for the Whitney Museum of American Art, Judith Goldman. Jurors in subsequent years included Warrington Colescott, Dennis Barrie, and Beth Grabowski. After a hiatus, the Cimarron National returned in 2019 with Jodi Throckmorton, curator of contemporary art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts serving as juror.

For the 2021 iteration of the exhibition, Larissa Goldston, director and a co-owner of Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) serves as juror. Goldston worked with the selection committee to award a purchase prize of up to $2,000 for one or a number of exemplary works. Purchased work will be added to the permanent collection of the Department of Art, housed in the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art.

The Museum has a significant collection of works on paper, including a large suite of works by master printmakers Dole Reed and J. Jay McVicker. A major gift in 1985 from OSU alumnus, Bill Goldston, of prints published by Universal Limited Art Editions were a foundational collection for the university. A gift of over 700 works on paper by Leon Polk Smith, one of the founders of the hard-edge style of minimal abstraction is also housed in the museum’s collection and serves as a major research archive. The Cimarron National exhibition is an expression of the university’s commitment to innovation in printmaking and works on paper.

(text adapted from the exhibition announcement)

INFORMATION

Gardiner Gallery of Art
Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts
107 Bartlett Center
Stillwater, Oklahoma 74078 USA
(405) 744-7285

HOURS
Monday-Friday, 9AM-4PM
Saturday, by appointment

MAP | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK

COLLAGE ON VIEW Cimarron National Works on Paper Exhibition at the Gardiner Gallery of Art at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater16 August-17 September 2021 The Cimarron National Works on Paper exhibition is organized by the Department of Art, Graphic Design…

[11
http://kolajmagazine.com/content/content/collage-exhibitions/variations-on-self-nisa-touchon-fine-art-santa-fe/
"Variations on Self--Self Portraiture and Collage": Ginnie Gardiner 15-30 July 2016 Opening Reception: 15 July, 5-7PM "Variations on Self" presents Ginnie Gardiner's exploratory process of collage making, that culminates in oil paintings on canvas, through an extensive group of small self portrait collage studies and a few of the resultant paintings.…
https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/ginnie-gardiner-study-for-spectator.jpg?resize=350%2C200
https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/ginnie-gardiner-study-for-spectator.jpg?resize=350%2C200 1x, https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/ginnie-gardiner-study-for-spectator.jpg?resize=525%2C300 1.5x, https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/ginnie-gardiner-study-for-spectator.jpg?resize=700%2C400 2x
21 November 2014-24 January 2015 "Greater Than The Sum: National Collage Society Annual Exhibition" The Metropolitan State University of Denver Center for Visual Art is hosting the annual National Collage Society show, “Greater Than the Sum”, through 24 January 2015.
