After a career as a pilot, he took up art in 2005 and has maintained a steady practice. His aesthetic draws from European Modernism and Latin American influences. His early work in collage gave way to a focus on painting, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, he revisited collage. Before beginning his art career, he worked as a commercial airline pilot, briefly, as an air ambulance pilot, and also certified as an intra-aortic balloon technician. His career as an expressionist artist began shortly after the 9\/11 attacks. Boekhoudt has shown his work extensively in solo and group shows in the U.S., across Latin America and the Caribbean. His work is held in numerous private and public collections, including the African American Museum of Dallas, the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, the Museo Nacional de Arte Moderna Carlos M\u00e9rida in Guatemala City, the Museo de Arte del Salvador in San Salvador, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the Museo Dr. Rafael \u00c1ngel Calder\u00f3n Guardia in San Jose, Costa Rica. The artist lives and works in Rockwall, Texas, USA.
