Can museums become 21st century public squares? How do arts organizations allow the public to experience and understand the multiple histories that inform contemporary life? These questions undergird the research of Ric Kasini Kadour, 2020-2021 Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Curatorial Fellow. He will speak about how artists can use historic sites, collections, and archives to make work that contributes to civic discourse and heal social divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About “The Elephant in the Room” Series<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What is \u201cthe elephant in the room\u201d at museums? What topics do museums and cultural heritage organizations shy away from, obscure, or feel ill-equipped to address? Whose stories are collected? And whose are absent?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This far-reaching virtual lecture series, supported by Vermont Humanities, convenes national scholars, curators, and cultural visionaries to explore these questions. Our goal is ultimately to question the kind<\/em> of history cultural heritage organizations perpetuate and to provide a framework for how institutions of all sizes and resources can engage in essential conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion in museum practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
