Canadian collage artist Jason de Haan (b. 1981) was shortlisted for the prestigious 2012 Sobey Art Award<\/a>. De Haan works through numerous forms to recognize the potential in various systems, materials and sets of conditions. He has had solo exhibitions throughout Canada and in Queretaro, Mexico, and group shows in Canada, Norway, and Iceland. He is currently pursuing his MFA at Bard College, Red Hook, New York, USA. His work, New Jerusalem<\/em> (shown here), is a floating city\/landscape collage from the deconstructed covers of over 1000 1950s-80s science fiction paperbacks. It is named for the Biblical City of God that descends from the heavens at the end of time. The Sobey Art Award is an annual prize given to a contemporary Canadian artist age 40 or under who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated. The award is has been presented annually since 2002. It was created by the Sobey Art Foundation and is administered by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia<\/a>. The winner of the 2012 prize was Montreal\u2019s Rapha\u00eblle de Groot.<\/p>\n
