Three collage-focused shows at The Photographers’ Gallery, London<\/p>\n

European photography is giving collage and photomontage new attention and recognition. In 2012, the Deutsche B\u00f6rse Photography Prize (presented by The Photographers\u2019 Gallery) was awarded to British collage artist John Stezaker. For Spring 2013, the Photographers\u2019 Gallery is highlighting collage in its three exhibitions: \u201cPerspectives on Collage\u201d offers eight individual approaches to the subject of collage. From artists using techniques to explore the conceptual limits of the photograph, to those working within a tradition of political and cultural critique, this highlights the enduring relevance of collage across a range of creative practices. American photographer Laura Letinsky\u2019s \u201cIll Form and Void Full\u201d features still life photographs that incorporate paper cut-outs from lifestyle magazines and art reproductions of food and tableware. Finally, Brazilian artist and designer Geraldo de Barros (1923-1998) is celebrated in \u201cWhat Remains\u201d, which traces the connections between his 1950 series \u201cFotoformas\u201d and his 1996-1998 series \u201cSobras\u201d, which includes over 250 collages. These forays into photography were the only two in his artistic career.<\/p>\n
