Lisa Sheets: Easing into Hope<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Sheets’ mixed media analog collages explore history, gender roles, and cultural norms, and how these things impact our lives. Sheets uses combinations of religious and historical iconography along with pop culture images to stress the sacred in our modern day lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For several years now, Sheets has been examining our common thread of experience with the recent pandemic. Sheets wanted to document how we are connected to our ancestors who battled the 1918 pandemic, and the tangible impact the recent pandemic has had on all our lives. Her most recent body of work places a firm focus on hope, joy, and renewal, Sheets is now committed to emerging out of the disruption and trauma, to move towards a time that can be new, fresh, hopeful; a time of growth and re-imagining. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheets uses a combination of found\/recycled materials, along with digital copies of vintage photos gleaned from advertising, family albums, and historical databases, Sheets hand cuts, pastes, layers, transfers, and paints to create her one of a kind collages. Sheets often uses repetition and digital manipulation of source images to emphasize key imagery and create symmetrical compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
